Our Travels 4.9.11

Hello everyone,
Well we have been having a great time visiting family and finding new friends.
Since we left Moama we have been to Deniliquin, Finley, Berrigan, Lowesdale, Howlong, Albury, Jindera and Henty.
We left Moama on the 30th August and went to Deniliquin – the ‘Ute Capital of the World’.  They hold the ute muster here each year and they hold the Guinness book of records title for amassing 2900+ utes in the one place and in a street parade.  The muster will be held in October and they hope to have over 3000 utes this year.
When we arrived it was to find that the local Edwards River was up and a lot of the walks were flooded and part of the local van park was too.

We walked the street J and had a coffee and slice and then decided to continue on.

Part of the museum display at Deniliquin. Part of the old school and a Ram mustering shed with thatched roof.
We drove to Finley – whoops – through Finley and headed for Jerilderie.
We stopped at a rest area 8 km out of Finley and had lunch and then decided to keep going towards Berrigan.

 Willows along an irrigation channel

lots of lovely Wattle about

We arrived in Berrigan with a call over the UHF advising us that the bakery in town was a great place if we were looking for lunch :D  Could not tell the caller we had already eaten so thanked him very much for his advice.  We stopped at the Post Office and posted a book home to Beckie.
We then continued on our way and stopped at a rest area near Lowesdale about 17 km from Howlong.

Rest area at Lowesdale.  Not wattle between car and van and the yellow of canola further back in photo.

This was a lovely spot with Wattle bushes right outside the door and Canola fields on either side of the road.  The sunset was lovely.

Sunset through the trees but you can still see a bit of the yellow canola field.

On the 31st we left Lowesdale at about 10am and headed toward Howlong.  We stopped here to get bread and also visited the information centre and then went on the Heritage walk of the town.  This was lovely and did not take too long but we walked about 2 km.

The old Post Office now a B+B
From here we drove across the bridge to check out the camping available at Lions park – ok but lots of River Red Gums that would be over the van. :)

From here we drove to Albury and were going to stop at the visitor information centre – but we couldn’t find it and eventually found our way to the road to take us to Jindera.

 Wagners Store

Inside the store, the other wall is the same :)

My Ancestors lived here when they left South Australia.  We stopped at the information centre which is also the Museum and spent about 1 ½ hours going through the display.  We were attempting to get some info for the family tree when a bus of visitors pulled up and our questions went unanswered.
We decided that it was probably best to go on our way and come back later for an uninterrupted visit.
We left Jindera after going to the two Lutheran cemeteries in town but were unable to find the ancestors.
We drove to Henty and have spent the past couple of days with my cousin and her partner.
On 1st September we spent the day chatting and catching up on all the years that have passed and also remembered Darryl’s Mum as it was her birthday.
Friday 2nd we went fishing on the Hume Weir.  A gorgeous sunny day but the wind on the water was a bit chilly…….

 out on the Hume Weir

Darryl caught the first Redfin and I wasn’t fishing at all….. I was doing crosswords as I am NOT a fisherperson…..  Graeme had put in four rods for four people so I felt obligated to throw in a line…..  No sooner had that happened then I caught a fish.  A redfin and bigger than Darryl’s.  Graeme then caught the third fish and it was the same size as Darryl’s.  My cousin Rhonda was left without a fish but a great day was had by the four of us.
First fish – a Redfin

Second fish – a Redfin and the BIGGEST of the day :D

Today we have had the pleasure of the company of my cousin Kerri and partner Robert and their son, with two of their grand-daughters.

We had a great BBQ with the fish that we caught yesterday and chatted about everything family.

  What a lovely day.
We will be staying at Henty until next week as we have more research to do at Jindera, Albury, Culcairn and Lockhart.

Hoping you are all keeping well.
