Happenings

We are FINALLY ready to 'hit the road' ..... on our venture to see Queensland.

We have had the issue with the caravan - mentioned in previous posts - and then we had a trip to Kempsey to say FAREWELL to Uncle David Menz.  Unfortunately he had been unwell for the past few years but went down hill suddenly and is now in a better place.  Sure hope he gave Dad a cuddle when he got there.
It is hard to think that Dad has been 'gone' for 25 years this year.  A long time but forever in our thoughts.
We travelled to Kempsey on Wednesday - took us 7 1/2 hours to get there - lots of road works and 40 and 60km hour sections of travel  (Usually takes us 7 hours to get to Taree - 1 1/2 hours futhur down the road), and as we arrived in Kempsey there was an enormous storm with very little visibility.  We were lucky with our travel compared to cousin Sharon Menz who had been travelling by train from 9am and got to Kempsey at 10pm at night.  Ian had left home at 6.30am before heading to Orange and then to Lithgow and then he travelled the rest of the way with Trevor.
We had rain on and off throughout the night but the day dawned clear and stayed that way until about 4 hours after the funeral.
The funeral was a lovely service and the memories that Linda read out about Uncle David were truely good.  The photos that were shown of him were lovely too.  Ones of him with Nanna Menz, in his Gold Cadilac and in his speedo's - some of them brought a chuckle from the congregation.
We all walked the casket out to the hearse and said our final goodbyes before adjourning to the hall for the light lunch 'wake'.  Many stories were told of memories of Uncle David and some more photos were shown.  We then took some photos of the family members that had been able to get to the funeral.

A couple of double ups - sorry.
Trevor and Ian headed off on their return journey at about 12.30pm.  Darryl and I left just on 1pm and Sharon was heading for the train station at about 1.45pm for the 2pm train.

We had a good drive home - dry until about Maclean and then short sharp showers for the rest of the journey.  We arrived home at 8.15pm (NSW time) and it wasn't long before we wre in bed.......

Up early this morning and we have been cleaning and tidying and doing the washing to get things ready for our departure in the morning.
Hopefully - everything is in the van and all we have to do is hook up and we are off in the morning.

  2. Thank you Linda. It was great seeing you and the family as well.
I think the last time we were together was either Dad's 60th at your parents place OR at Dad's funeral.
Will have to catch up again soon.
